HistoryProf. Dr. mont. Helmut Wieser took over leadership of the laboratory from Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Peter Tautzenberger in WS 17/18.
Tasks and objectives
  • Conducting different types of materials testing (see laboratory equipment)
  • Among other things, this laboratory is used for the practical training in material technology (Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and in Environmental and Process Engineering), for the practical training in metallography in the Welding Technology module (Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering) and for analyzing samples from the Fiber Composite Laboratory and the Laboratory for Welding Technology, as well as for thesis and project work.

  • ZWICK universal testing machine for tensile, compression, bending and torsion loading, maximum force 250 kN
  • Pendulum impact tester for Charpy notched bar impact test with a working capacity of 300 J, suitable for testing metal materials
  • Erichsen cupping device for testing cupping capacity of metallic materials
  • Rockwell hardness tester BALUT, type BMS203RSR, measurement according to Rockwell and Super-Rockwell
  • Brinell/Vickers hardness tester WOLPERT, type Dia Testor 2n with hardness measuring electronics ESI, type HME compact, measuring range HV1 to HV50 and HBW up to max. 2452 N (250 kp)
