The Bachelor’s thesis requires the students to independently solve a design assignment at building or housing settlement level. The assignment can be for a new building or the redevelopment of an existing one, or of an entire housing settlement. The main focus is on the energy-efficient optimization of the building and supply technology. However, the assignment can also include other aspects of sustainability, such as social and cultural issues relevant to buildings and housing settlement structures, further ecological aspects and economic factors. The design includes a discussion of the inception, analyses, reflection on aspects of presentation, the design process, the function, the form, the historical or cultural context and the construction.

Qualification Objectives

The students are able to recognize fundamental aspects of an energy-efficient and sustainable architectural design. They can process the relevant principles and related issues independently. They can establish links between research results, analyses and conclusions and their own designs. They have the expertise to argue these interdependencies and prove their argument using appropriate media.
