Contents
  • The design of a building envelope and its classification based on design and technical requirements.
  • Design and structural planning of a post and beam façade with integrated opening elements. Compilation of a plan of execution with layout plans and detailed plans for the façade, including the structural planning of all necessary building connections.
  • Supporting structure engineering – load calculation and pre-dimensioning of façade construction (secondary supporting structures). Building vibrations, wind load, fall protection.
  • Construction physics – protection against summer overheating, winter insulation, sound insulation- Airtightness, resistance to driving rain, vapor transmission resistance
  • Natural light optimization, sun-shielding and blackout
  • Tolerance deviations
Qualification Objectives
  • The students can design a simple supporting structure with a building envelope as architectural engineering and assess the impact of the design from an architectural and engineering point of view- They can work out all relevant details constructively and generate a plan of execution in electronic form- They can explain and present the design and the construction
  • They can determine relevant loads from empty weight and wind, and pre-dimension the façade construction to meet requirements- They can determine all of the requirements for winter and summer insulation and optimize the façade construction as appropriate
  • They know the most important construction measures for improving resistance to driving rain, airtightness and for avoiding loss of humidity during construction- They can incorporate the specialized requirements of construction physics, such as the organization of sun-shielding and daylight control systems, into the façade construction
  • They are familiar with the simple assessment of the amount of natural light in the inner rooms and can determine the daylight quotients using an appropriate measure model
  • They can constructively record the building vibrations, tolerances and deviations that are to be expected
  • They can produce a plan for cleaning and maintenance
