Daniel Rothaug studied communication design with a focus on interactive media at the Design Faculty of the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt.

Previously, he worked as an interface designer at Apple and as an art director on multimedia projects for TUI, Opel, Renault and Volkswagen.

During his studies, he founded the digital agency 'Zum Kuckuck' in Würzburg in 2002 together with three partners. Until 2015, he was responsible there as creative director for digital projects for Audi, Daimler, Deutsche Telekom, Drykorn, Joop, Reisenthel, SAP, Städel Museum, Volkswagen or Walter Knoll.

His work has received over 150 national and international awards such as ADC Germany, ADC New York, Annual Multimedia Gold, DDC Gute Gestaltung, Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, German Design Award, iF Design Award Gold, New York Festivals, Red Dot Best of the Best and has been published by the Museum of Modern Art San Francisco, among others.

Since 2013, Daniel Rothaug has been Professor of Interface Design at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, and Dean of the Faculty of Design since 2017.

As a designer and consultant, he works for companies at the interface of design and technology. He is a member of the DDC (Deutscher Designer Club e. V.) and a frequent jury member.
