The Author

The work of the so called Wakefield Master, probably a cleric, is part of the mystery plays in the Towneley Cycle. This remarkable poet seems to have written his pageants between 1400 and 1450 in Wakefield, a prosperous market town in Yorkshire, where his plays were also performed.
