George Lillo

The Author

 

George Lillo, an English playwright and tragedian, was born on February 3, 1691 in Moorfields, or Moorgate, in the City of London. He was also a partner in his father's goldsmith's and jewellery business. Between 1730 and 1739 he wrote at least eight plays. Lillo died at age 48, on September 4, 1739, in Rotherhithe, London.
