Lesson 5

The semitone

f' sharp (f ')

――――――

In this lesson we will play our first sharp semitone: «f' sharp». Sharp means higher in pitch by one semitone (half step). There are again two fingerings possible, the recorder fingering and the Aerophone fingering. You can decide which one is convenient for you.

This exercise will practise in three different ways the connection between note f' sharp and note g':

For the following exercises we need the note e'. Here comes its finger chart:

Now we will do some exercises:

Exercise 1

Exercise 2

Our third exercise is a little piece composed in G major by Hans Leo Haßler (1564 - 1612). G major is a major scale based on G, with the pitches G, A, B, C, D, E, and F. Its key signature has one sharp. Its relative minor is E minor.

Exercise four is a little composition «Dialogue» in E minor by Béla Bartók (1881 - 1945). E minor is a minor scale based on E, consisting of the pitches E, F, G, A, B, C, and D. Its key signature has one sharp. Its relative major is G major.
