Augsburg University of Applied Sciences is donating 5,000 face masks to social organizations in the region. The donation comes from the College for Urban Transportation and Logistics at the Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU), a university that Augsburg University of Applied Sciences has been working closely with for a number of years now.

"The Shenzhen Technology University is an important partner of Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. The generous donation of face masks is a testament to the solid basis of our cooperation. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the President of the SZTU, Prof. Dr. Shuangchen Ruan", says University President, Prof. Dr. Gordon Thomas Rohrmair.

The Shenzhen Technical University was founded based on the model of German universities of applied sciences. A campus for 25,000 students with residential buildings for both students and teachers was built within a short period of time. Prof. Dr. Franz Raps is an advisory member for Augsburg University of Applied Sciences at the university in Shenzhen.

As the founding dean of the Shenzhen Technology University, he has spent the past four years setting up a college for urban transportation and logistics. He has already set up a laboratory for forms of teaching and introduced teaching modules, for example. There are also regular exchanges between academics and students of the SZTU and Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.

Raps emphasizes: "Committed and practical - the slogan of universities of applied sciences also applies to SZTU in Shenzhen. These face masks are a symbol of the solidarity and close cooperation with the people in Shenzhen who are also closely following developments in Germany."

By donating these face masks, Augsburg University of Applied Sciences is supporting social organizations in the region. 1,000 masks will be given to the Fritz-Felsenstein-Haus, an institution that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has been cooperating closely with for a number of years now. Students of the University are developing technical devices to facilitate the daily lives of residents with disabilities.

Social organizations that made a valuable contribution to the introduction of the Social Work study program at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences will receive 1,000 masks: Katholische Jugendfürsorge Augsburg, Sozialdienst katholischer Frauen, Arbeiterwohlfahrt Augsburg and Paritätischer Landesverband Bayern – BV Schwaben. "Augsburg University of Applied Sciences attaches great importance to the social commitment and social responsibility of its teachers and students," says President Rohrmair. He believes that the introduction of social work has had a profound impact on Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. "With these face masks we would like to thank our partners again for their commitment and to make a small but important contribution during these unprecedented times."
