History

The Fiber Composite Laboratory was initiated by Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Ulrich Thalhofer in 2008 and subsequently (from 2009) designed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Baeten. The equipment was procured between 2010 and 2011, and commissioned in 2011. The Fiber Composite Laboratory has been fully integrated in laboratory and tutorial operation since WS 2011/12. The increasing significance of high-performance fiber composites in the Augsburg region is taken into account in this laboratory, which serves the purpose of education and research in the field of polymer and ceramic fiber composites.

Tasks and objectivesThe fundamentals of the manufacturing of polymer composite materials are intended to be conveyed in the Fiber Composite Laboratory. In the Master study program, in-depth knowledge of component design is developed. The Fiber Composite Laboratory is used in research and development projects for designing and manufacturing high-performance fiber composites in cooperation with industry partners.

  • 4 computer workstations with power PC/laptops, each with Ansys simulation software package installed
  • 1 thermographic camera
