To gain a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics you have to do a 7 semester course of study, where theory and practice go hand in hand. The practical training takes place in the laboratories in the three faculties involved. In addition to this research and development projects are carried out in the Competence Centre for Mechatronics as well as further interdisciplinary training possibilities.
The course of study includes an orientation phase lasting 2 semesters and 5 semesters of in-depth studies. In the orientation phase, students gain a basic knowledge of Mathematics, Physics, Mechanics, Construction, Materials Technology, Electrical Engineering and I T. The in-depth part of the studies consists of one semester on industrial placement and 4 semesters of theory.
The industrial placement gives the participants the opportunity to use the acquired knowledge in the framework of project work and to put it into practice by working independently in the field of engineering. Supporting lectures at the University of Applied Sciences accompany the industrial training.
The 4 semesters of theory include the main focuses of Measurement and Test Engineering, , Circuit Technology, Mechanics and Construction, Automation Technology, Informatics, Computer Technology , Mechatronics and Systems Engineering. These courses serve to increase and consolidate the expertise in this subject.
Mechatronics sounds like the name of a German band founded in Hamburg in 1993, but it isn’t. Mechatronics is the name of the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Degree course offered jointly by the Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Informatics. At the end of their studies, the Mechatronics students have excellent career prospects.
The job description for a mechatronics engineer is extremely diverse. It includes all areas of technology in which the components of electronics, mechanics and informatics are combined together. If you like developing automobile and robot systems, enjoy improving information and telecommunication technology or new high-tech products, for example for the world of medicine, you are perfectly suited to being a mechatronics engineer.
