Application-oriented exchange programs

You can perfectly integrate our short-term research internships into a running study program without missing exams or course attendance.

In the summer term, you start between May and July; in the winter term, between January and March. You intern full-time for between one and three months and arrange the final duration in accordance with your supervising professor.

Finally, you finish with a report about your assignments and a respective presentation, depending on the project assessment requirements.

The internship provides 5 to 6 credits per month. You can add further credits by attending German courses. For more details on the German training, please see "Language requirements".

The Applied study semester (A2S) consists of practical laboratory work, field subjects, or your Bachelor's or Master's thesis.

For the laboratory experience or your thesis's topic, you find the research project related to your studying program and offered for the A2S in the project overview.

Field subjects available for the A2S are held in English. You can either deepen your knowledge of your study or have an introduction to subjects related to your study in a broader sense. You can find the list of accessible courses on the official website of the course catalog for exchange students.

You obtain between 24 and 30 credits consisting of one-third lab work (8 to 10 credits) and two third technical courses (16 to 20 credits).

Technical courses include one or two of the General elective courses (under "Gesamtübersicht aller Kurse") or courses offered by the Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication, including German training. The major part ought to be made up of technical subjects.

The number of credits of the Bachelor's or Master's thesis depends on the necessary record determined by your studying program.

The application-oriented exchange program at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg offers exchange students the opportunity to combine practical experience with experience abroad.

Your students do not only take a closer look at running research projects. They are a part of the research team, and are learning experts themselves and, therefore, need subject-specific prerequisites.

For this reason, first of all, the applicants need to find a research project suiting their studying program and an academic referee of your university to confirm their choice.

In the Report on eligibility, the academic referee approves the appropriation of the applicant based on the project description. The academic referee forwards the document directly to you, the study abroad advisor.

The Report on eligibility is necessary for both, the Research internships and the Applied study semester.

Besides the standard information and the Report on eligibility, we ask you to send us the completed and signed Statement of support and credit eligibility.

The Statement of support and credit eligibility provides information on whether the internship is mandatory or voluntary based on the studying program of the applicant (necessary for enrollment). It ensures that the applicant is informed about their student visa requirements:

The research internships of this program take 90 days at the maximum. Participants in the Research internships are enrolled as exchange students and basically need a student visa. However, a stay of 90 days at the maximum can provide different visa conditions than a regular exchange semester in Germany. Certain citizenships do not require a student visa in this case. However, these conditions do change on the 91st day of stay.

• Transcript of Records

Besides the standard information and the Report on eligibility, the applicant completes the first part of the Learning Agreement, including the Study program. We approve the chosen project and course selection.

The participants of the A2S are enrolled as regular exchange students and need to consider the citizenship-specific conditions of the student visa.

• Fellowship application document

Every applicant of the Application-oriented exchange program can apply concurrently for the program-related fellowship submitting the digital fellowship application form. An academic referee forwards the Letter of Recommendation directly to [Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript].

The Letter of Recommendation is an additional option for the fellowship application in case that the academic referee who fulfilled the Report on eligibilty has commented their assessment in the Report.
