In August 2023, ten students from Augsburg University of Applied Sciences were able to take part in an unforgettable study trip to China under the guidance of Chinese language lecturer Dr Tianshu Lü - an intensive course on Chinese language, culture and regional studies of a very special kind. The participants spent more than three weeks exploring the country - the programme included visits to the ancient temple in Qufu, the residence of the former German governor in Qingdao, the imperial Forbidden City in Beijing, a climb to the sacred Tai Mountain and the Great Wall of China. And of course, the typical local food (fire pot, barbecue skewers, noodle soup, Peking duck) was not to be missed.

The excursion to China had been an integral part of the Chinese course programme at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences since 2007, but had to take a break for three years due to the coronavirus pandemic. It is therefore all the more gratifying that the programme has now been able to take place again thanks to the support of the ZSI, the financial support of the Hans Benedikt Foundation and the great commitment of Dr Tianshu Lü.

The participating students, who had previously completed Chinese language courses (levels 1-4) at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, were able to apply and deepen their language and cultural knowledge on site.

At Shandong University, a partner university of Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, they had the opportunity to attend courses on various cultural and regional topics (Chinese calligraphy/painting, paper cutting, tea ceremony, Chinese classical musical instruments) in addition to language lessons. At the weekend, the group was able to explore the city of Jinan. The excursions to Shanghai, Montain Tai, Qufu (Confucius' homeland), Qingdao (former German colony city) and Beijing rounded off the trip perfectly. The excursion also served as linguistic and cultural preparation for those who are planning to complete their semester abroad in Asia (Taiwan, South Korea, China, etc.)
